"This is one of the best short stories I've ever edited for Evernight! You have dealt with a difficult subject, portraying the young characters as mature beyond their years, yet still maintaining their innocence ..." L.P. Evernight Publishing Editor

Sixteen-year-old Joshua has only ever known the backside of a hand. Dumped in an abusive orphanage after the death of his mother, Joshua swears he will grow up one day and be free from the hell he’s had to endure. All seemed forsaken in his world until Raven showed up at the orphanage. They grow to depend on each other to make it through dark times. Joshua protects Raven, and in turn Raven gives him a reason to live, to dream, to hope, until one night she is taken, leaving Joshua in a state of absolute grief.

Years pass, and through legal battle after legal battle, Miracle Valley Orphanage’s doors shut for good. Joshua finds himself in an alternative home for boys where he’s being integrated into the school system—normal teenage stuff he knows nothing about. All he knows now is how to be a bully until a chance encounter with Raven all these years later.

He never in a million years thought he’d see her again, let alone attend the same high school. A tale of childhood abuse, broken faith, and a love born from the ashes, THE GOD NOTE, will make you consider … what happens when we become what we hate most?
